Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Whoever you are, and whatever your experience of breast cancer, Breast Cancer Now are there to help. October is the most important time of the year for breast cancer awareness. A time for us all to come together and raise awareness of this devastating disease and its effects.

Wear it pink – Wear pink. Raise money – 18th October 2024

Breast Cancer Now’s wear it pink day is one of the biggest fundraising events in the UK. Taking place during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, thousands of amazing people wear it pink in their communities, schools or work places for the UK’s largest breast cancer charity, Breast Cancer Now.

Breast Cancer Now are on a mission to make sure that by 2050, everyone diagnosed with breast cancer lives, and is supported to live well. By wearing it pink, you can help get there.

Touch, Look, Check (TLC)

Anyone can get breast cancer, even men. Get to know your normal by checking your breasts regularly.  Your breasts can change for many reasons – like the menopause, pregnancy and breastfeeding, puberty or even during your period. So, if you check them regularly, you’ll be able to spot any new or unusual changes that should be checked out by a GP.  for further information on signs and symptoms please visit: https://breastcancernow.org/about-breast-cancer/awareness/signs-and-symptoms-of-breast-cancer/

What will happen when I see my GP?

If you have concerns regarding new or unusual changes, please get in contact with us to book a face to face appointment with your GP.

After examining your breasts, your GP may:

  • Decide there’s no need for further investigation
  • Ask to see you again after a short time
  • Refer you to a breast clinic

Being referred to a breast clinic doesn’t mean you have breast cancer, just that further assessment is needed to find out what is going on.

If your GP is male and you don’t feel comfortable going to see him, you may ask to see one of our female GP’s.  You can also ask for a female nurse or member of staff to be present during your examination when you book your appointment, or you can take a friend or relative with you.
