Diazepam for fear of flying

The doctors at Combe Coastal have received increasing requests for short term prescriptions for diazepam for patients with fear of flying.
In the UK diazepam is a Class C/Schedule IV controlled drug.  It is vital that we ensure any prescriptions we issue are safe and appropriate.
National guidance reflects that psychological therapies are the most effective option for managing fear of flying.  We therefore advise that our patients should look into more appropriate alternatives if they are concerned about upcoming flights.  There are many providers of appropriate courses (including many of the major airlines).  Further information can be found here:
The  NHS does not fund ‘Just-in-case’ travel medicines and providing such prescriptions is not an NHS service.  If you want to seek a prescription we recommend accessing a private GP service.
